THE CREATION, NATURE, STATUS AND SOME RULINGS OF SHARI?AH PERTAINING TO WOMEN IN ISLAM

Abstract

The paper attempts to explain the creation of women, which the Prophet (peace be upon him) said was from the ribs of a man, and about their nature which the Qur?an reveals that differs from that of men, and about their status, which Islam raises to greater heights. The paper also discusses some rulings of the Shari?ah pertaining to women on Hijab, its meaning and obligatory conditions attach to it. Seclusion from men and its importance, the meaning of Idda, its types and prohibitions are provided. The paper further highlights some of the women?s major responsibilities that include child upbringing, and measures on how to inculcate the right moral values. The obligations of wives in relation to their husband, which include obedience, the satisfaction of the husband?s needs and safeguarding his properties, are also explained.
